The massive overhaul of Louisville's 1300-room riverfront hotel began in 2003. The first phase included the main hotel lobby, over 600 guest suites, the Grand Ballroom, meeting rooms, and public spaces. The guest suites were completely gutted and rebuilt with larger, luxurious bathrooms featuring walk-in showers, porcelain stone floors and walls, and separate vanity areas. The 23,000+ square feet Grand Ballroom was also completely gutted down to the structure and rebuilt with intricate millwork inlaid with mirrors, tray ceilings, interior finishes, and a state-of-the-art audio-visual system. A previously unused restaurant space atop the roof of the east tower was finished into the hotel fitness center. The second phase of the renovation concentrated above Fourth Street on a former mundane, metal-roofed pedway. Demolished and rebuilt from the concrete slab and forever changing the face of the Louisville skyline from the Indiana shore as well as the Main Street thoroughfare, the Conservatory houses a new hotel bar with lounge seating areas, a grab-and-go coffee and deli, and sundry shop.
The final phase of the project included the total update of the west tower standard guestrooms, the hotel’s main kitchen, the 14,000+ square feet junior ballroom, three restaurants, and lounges.
